Barry University medical student Mario (last name not provided for identity protection) was shocked to realize that someone stole his $2,500 worth laptop at the campus library on Monday, September 12, 2022.
As he was studying on his laptop, the thief was sitting next to him. After Mario went downstairs to get something to eat, surveillance video shows the thief approached the laptop, looked around to make sure no one was watching, and slid it into his backpack. He then quickly walked away into the book isles.
Mario claims that he saw the thief around campus before, not talking with anyone and consistently using back doors.
Currently, Miami Shores Police and Barry University officials are working to identify the thief and take consequent measures.
In the meantime, Mario warns all students to think twice before leaving their belongings unattended. Leaving for a short time can already give an ample opportunity for theft.
